WhatsApp built in audio transcription

Honestly, I don’t know what took them so long to launch this. I’ve had many WhatsApp conversations that would have benefited from this built-in audio transcription. It usually goes like this:

  • A conversation starts in text.
  • The subject gets more interesting.
  • Both participants start replying immediately.
  • Texting becomes too slow for my thought process, I get impatient, and I send an audio message.
  • The other person stops replying, disrupting the flow—mostly because they’re “busy” (but clearly unfocused, I can tell) and can’t listen at that moment.

This is personalization in communication—you choose whichever mode works best for you. In a way, it’s a SALAT (same-language translator) I once proposed. Not in terms of content or meaning, but in terms of modality.

Still, I wonder about the broader trend we’re heading toward—shouldn’t we just call each other and have a real conversation?
